Digital Nomad Mastery: Living Full-time in an Airbnb

Ever been curious about the nomadic lifestyle and considering living in an Airbnb on a long-term basis? If so, you’re not alone.

Many people, including myself, have been doing it for years. For me, I’ve been living out of Airbnbs since 2018 – and it has taught me a lot about adapting to new cultures, finding affordable accommodations, and how to make each location my home for a few months at a time.

As a location-independent worker, it’s essential to have a comfortable and productive workspace with stable Wi-Fi, and staying in apartments instead of hotels or hostels is often the best option.

Here are the best ways to help you choose the best Airbnb that suit your needs as a Digital Nomad:

Make sure to select all the necessary filters

Separate workspace: This is to ensure you have space to work from. Having a separate space to work from will help you maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Strong Wifi: You can ask the host to confirm the wifi speed & often they are willing to share this information.

Two more essentials for me are to make sure my new home has a kitchen. I love to cook and it’s not often affordable to eat out daily. I also always make sure that my Airbnbs includes a washing machine as I don’t particularly appreciate wasting time in a laundrette.

Of course, this is my personal preference but spend time checking reviews and pictures thoroughly. It’s easy to scroll through the pictures and think to yourself it looks great when really the chairs don’t look that comfy or supportive to work from for the new few months (or however long), or the kitchen is too small to prepare your meals!

Make sure the home suits you and your needs.

If you’re interested in taking your nomadic lifestyle to the next level, I’d say choosing Airbnb as a place to live is the best way to go.

In 2022, Airbnb launched their ‘Live Anywhere on Airbnb’ program, which provided travel and accommodation expenses for 12 people to live and work from Airbnb listings over a duration of 10 months – sounds cool right?

Although applications are closed now, it’s a great example of how Airbnb is taking the nomad lifestyle seriously and how it can be an excellent opportunity to share your experiences while exploring the world.

Being location independent and able to work from anywhere in the world is a dream come true for many, and Airbnb can make it a reality. So, what are you waiting for?

Consider booking a stay in a nearby area for a couple of months, as this may help you discover a lifestyle that suits you.
